A319neo

The shortened-fuselage member of Airbus’ game-changing A320neo (new engine option) product line – the A319neo – seats 140 passengers in two classes or as many as 160 in a high-density layout with a range of up to 3,750 nautical miles. Contributing to its operational efficiency is the choice of two new-generation engines (the PurePower PW1100G-JM from Pratt and Whitney and the LEAP-1A from CFM International), as well as the incorporation of large, fuel-saving wingtip devices called Sharklets.

In-service advantages

Incorporating new engines and large Sharklet™ wingtip devices, Airbus’ A320neo Family – which includes the A319neo as its shortest-fuselage member – was designed to deliver fuel savings of 15 per cent.

The Airbus A320neo product line also provides a significant reduction in NOx emissions and reduced engine noise.

The A319neo

Powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines, the no. 1 A319neo performed its maiden evaluation on 31 March 2017 – taking off from Airbus’ industrial site at Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport in Germany and landing at the company’s Toulouse, France headquarters facility.

The A320neo “new engine option” is the latest of many product upgrades as Airbus continues to invest around 300 million euros a year in improvements for the A320 Family. Delivered to its first airline operator in 2016, the NEO incorporates many innovations, including latest generation engine choices – the PurePower PW1100G-JM from Pratt & Whitney and CFM International’s LEAP-1A – and large Sharklet™ wingtip devices, which together deliver 15 per cent in fuel savings.

By 2020, the NEO will deliver a 20 per cent fuel burn improvement per seat and an additional flight distance of 500 nautical miles (950 kilometres), or the ability to carry two tonnes more payload at a given range. For the environment, the A320neo’s fuel savings translate into some 5,000 tonnes fewer CO2 emitted per aircraft annually. Additionally, the A320neo provides a double-digit reduction in NOx emissions and reduced engine noise.

Thanks to optimised use of cabin space, the A319neo – which performed its first flight in March 2017 – seats 140 passengers in two classes or up to 160 in a high-density layout with a range of up to 3,750 nautical miles.
